Including a grind mechanic is great in an RPG or Farm simulator. The world as vibrant as it is feels a bit devoid of actual life, very few characters with meaningful interactions. The fact that you can't cook your own crops, you buy seeds grow them and then have to pay someone to turn it into a meal is just a bad mechanic in my opinion. The fact that you can't cycle through tools without pulling up the inventory finding the tool and then equipping it is cumbersome. There are a lot of simple elements missing. The fact that you can't cycle through tools without pulling up the It's just not a very good game. While by no means as polished or deep as the top-tier titles in the genre the general accessibility, friendly characters and tone, and plain cute charm or Fables should be perfect for people who just want to just take their time and enjoy themselves, no matter what their age. Further, throw in the ability to play along with someone else co-op style and it positions itself very nicely for a parent or older sibling to play along with a less experienced gamer-in-training as well. A dash of crafting and cultivation help to add some meat to the game’s bones once you get rolling, and some weapon choices help to give you some nice combat options to work with as you face a variety of foes. While the story, for the most part, runs along familiar lines, keeping it simple seems to work nicely for the title, giving you reasons to keep moving around to discover new areas and challenges, but also never bogging things down. And those other caves and such are just "background scenery" which is fine. But it moves the game along and gives some sort of reason why certain areas are locked until you reach a certain point in the story. they all end up in the same back-woods podunk village and end up dealing with the new Calamity in three different ways WITHOUT TELLING EACH OTHER!?!?! And the only remaining "legendary hero" and the descendant of the other one, and his own grandchild, and two weird beings who are supposed to PROTECT THEM FROM DANGER (but apparently can't fight at all). Some random dude in a shack says "bring me some priceless ancient relics from the most dangerous places in the world" and you just go along with that, no questions asked? Yeah. You play a cat, but your grandfather is a rabbit? Not gonna happen IRL. Hazel is a princess, but joined the army and decided to man the most remote/isolated fort in the empire? I think not. And in that kind of role, I think this game works really well.īut OP is right, the story in this game is REALLY FLIMSY. then it's just a quiet little adventure that you can use to escape your own reality for a few days after work/school or over the weekend.
